SYTYCD Top 11 Showcase

Similar to last season, So You Think You Can Dance 7's Top 11 were introduced to the voters with a showcase prior to next week's voting rounds. Each member of the Top 11 danced in their own style with an All-Star partner(s).

After seeing this, I do have a few concerns about this new format of pairing the contestants with an All-Star. While I love a lot of the all-stars, this season is not about finding the best SYTYCD alumni. The show really needs to make sure that the choreography and camera isolations make the contestants stand out, and not so much their all-star partner. For example, Anya and especially Pasha were given all the standout moves in their dance with Cristina. I do have to say, though, that Mia Michaels played it best with her choreography, giving Billy and Alex the most opportunity to stand out while still making Ade a critical part of the dance.

In addition, some of these all-stars need to be more cognizant about making their partner stand out. This is one reason why I was really disappointed that Brandon Bryant from Season 5 wasn't part of this cast because he was the epitome of a perfect partner. He always made his partners look good, and he kept every single partner he danced with safe from elimination that week. At the same time, some of the contestants really need to pick up the pace and make themselves stand out more, to find that "magic quality" that Nigel was talking about. Alexie, I barely even noticed you (although her pale pink dress didn't help).
