If there's one thing American Idol fans know how to do, it's vote. American Idol winner Kris Allen was announced today as a nominee for two awards where fan voting determines the winner.
The first award is a Relly Award for Best Newbie on Live with Regis & Kelly. Kris is up against Cameron Diaz, Dierks Bentley, Rupert Grint and Jason Segel. Voting runs today only at rellyawards.com.
And the big one is a new award for the Primetime Emmy Awards, called the "Breakthrough Performance of the Year." It recognizes the most talked-about moment on television throughout the past season. Kris winning American Idol is one of the 15 nominees. You can vote at www.tv.com/breakthrough.
Clips of the 15 performances will be available to view on the site, from which fans can select their favorite. On Monday, Sept. 14, the performances will be narrowed down to 10, and the top three will be revealed on the Sept. 20 live Emmy telecast. During the show, viewers can continue to vote for their favorite of the three. The Breakthrough Performance of the Year, as chosen by television fans on TV.com, will be announced at the end of the telecast.
Whether or not you agreed with America's vote, you can't tell me that Kris winning American Idol was not THE most talked-about moment on TV this year. People are STILL talking about it and debating it. So I hope Idol fans are able to unite on this one. Plus, Kris' winning moment being on the telecast also means Adam being on the telecast. That's never a bad thing, right?
ETA: Oh. Obama's inauguration is on here? OK maybe Kris winning Idol wasn't the most talked-about moment (although I would argue that Obama's speech after he won the election was more memorable than the inaugural ball. WTH? Why isn't THAT on there?! I didn't even watch the inaugural ball.)
